FACELIFT

Facelifts, also known as a rhytidectomy, are cosmetic surgeries meant to improve the facial appearance by tightening and lifting the tissues. Often, the facelift involves removing excess skin or fat, followed by the recontouring of remaining facial tissue to provide the desired appearance.

Facelift procedures are most often chosen to counteract the natural aging process whereby the facial skin and tissues lose their elasticity, beginning to sag into lines and wrinkles.

IS FACELIFT RIGHT FOR ME?

Facelift procedures are popular among patients in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who are starting to see the visible signs of aging in their face. A facelift typically focuses on recontouring the lower areas of the face, including the jawline and cheeks, although some rhytidectomy procedures may be performed on the forehead or the middle of the face.

A facelift can provide the following improvements:

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Give you a younger and well-rested appearance

  • Reduce the sagging of facial skin

  • Improve deep wrinkles such as laugh lines and forehead wrinkles

FACELIFT USING VECTRA 3D

The Vectra 3D Camera helps you visualize, prior to your surgery, what you will look like after your facelift procedure. Vectra’s simulated sculpting tools will allow Dr. Gupta to show you the expected outcome of your facelift. The camera’s 3D capabilities will provide you with a comprehensive view of both the front of your face and your profile, giving you pre-operative peace of mind about your procedure.

PROCEDURE DETAILS

Most facelifts are performed under general anesthesia. Once the area is numb, the surgeon makes an incision in front of the ear, where it will not leave a noticeable scar. This incision allows the surgeon to carefully separate the skin from underlying tissues so that the reshaping process may begin. Existing tissues can be removed or recontoured. Implants may also be added to the cheeks, chin, or other facial areas to increase volume. Finally, excess facial skin is removed before the incision is closed.

RECOVERY AFTER A FACELIFT

Typically, recovery following rhytidectomy takes a week or two. During the first few days, the face will be bandaged, and you can expect some degree of bruising, swelling, or tenderness. Patients are advised to wear button-down shirts during the recovery period. You should be able to return to normal daily activities between one and three weeks after a facelift procedure, although residual swelling may last up to three months. The effects of rhytidectomy procedures usually last between five and ten years.
